2 Corinthians is an oft-quoted epistle with some famous theological "sound bites" - we carry treasure in jars of clay; if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation; my grace is sufficient for you, etc - but in this course we will aim to study the entirety of the epistle and discover Paul's pastoral heart for the Corinthians.
Overview + Chapters 1-3
Session one
In the first section of his letter, Paul writes to the Corinthians about suffering and comfort, as well as what it means to be a minister of the gospel in all places and under all circumstances.
The handout will be completed during the class.
Chapters 4-7
Session two
In chapters 4-7 we see the transience of life on earth - how we are merely jars of clay carrying the treasure of the gospel, and how we are just in our earthly "tents" as we await life in eternity with God.
The handout will be completed during the class.
Chapters 8-10
Session three
As Paul encourages the Corinthians to give to the believers in Jerusalem, we ask: does he manipulate or strong-arm them into giving? What does generous giving look like?
The handout will be completed during the class.
Chapters 11-13
Session four
As we conclude Paul's letter to the Corinthians, we review the reasons Paul gives for "boasting" and talk about what authentic and responsible Christian leadership looks like.
The handout will be completed during the class.
